Music is our first love

Authors, these productive and creative persons, provide an indispensible contribution to the cultural development of society.
Especially in the digital age, when music can be accessed at any time and anywhere, it is particularly important to make it clear that the creative act needs to be protected and to support the protection of intellectual property.
This was and is the essential mission of the collecting societies.
The important basic conditions for the collecting societies and their members are in the process of changing or have already changed: national issues are becoming international, analogue is becoming digital, and monopolies are becoming competitive fields.
As one of the largest authors' associations for works of music in the world, GEMA is also working on an international level to safeguard and further develop copyright protection. In the online age, technological developments will always result in new challenges.
GEMA accepts these challenges, and it is active where it has to be active. This means GEMA is prepared to move beyond the German market and take on a leading role in Europe as well.
GEMA has a long and grand tradition and represents social and
cultural values. GEMA will build on this during these times of
inevitable changes.
