What did the 2020 General Assembly decide when it comes to managing synchronisation rights for UGC platforms?

The 2020 General Assembly adopted changes to the Deed of Assignment affecting the management and perception of synchronisation rights for UGC platforms (UGC = user generated content) such as YouTube, Facebook and TikTok. According to the new version of the Deed of Assignment, the synchronisation rights for non-commercial contents on such platforms will be collectively managed by GEMA in future. Regarding other commercial contents, rightsholders can decide for each service provider separately whether they want to have GEMA manage the synchronisation rights collectively or whether they want to assign it individually (so-called Opt Out).
