The spreading corona pandemic is a difficult and challenging time for all of us. Theatres, cultural institutions and leisure facilities throughout Germany must remain closed for the time being. An estimate of how long this situation will last cannot be made at present. The economic consequences for the entire music and culture industry are already devastating. We are aware that the drastic restrictions on public life to protect against the corona pandemic – as necessary and useful as they are for society – can, at the same time, threaten the existence of our customers. Small and medium-sized enterprises in particular are severely affected by the consequences. This situation is being experienced to the same extent by the authors represented by GEMA – here, too, the necessary measures mean existentially threatening losses of income.
Representing our approximately 78,000 members, we want to do everything together to ensure that our music culture has a future. In concrete terms, this means that we take pragmatic and flexible measures within the scope of our fiduciary responsibility. Furthermore, we will only send absolutely necessary letters (e.g. answers to customer inquiries) to our customers until further notice. It may take some time before this measure is fully effective. We therefore ask for your understanding.
