Applications for a corona reimbursement (credit note) in relation to business closures in the context of closures ordered by the authorities can be submitted for the period from 1 January 2021 in the GEMA online portal.
Many music users have already been affected by closures ordered by the authorities for months. GEMA supports its customers by treating the agreements for these periods as dormant and by reimbursing the already paid licence fees for these periods as a sign of goodwill. In order to submit the application necessary for this, you will exclusively have our online portal at your disposal.
Please take the following information into consideration, as it affects the time-related allocation of the application to the reimbursements.
We continue to keep this voluntary support up due to the new lockdown measures decided upon by the federal government and the “Länder” on 23 March without acknowledging any legal precedents or legal obligations.

If you have not received a code by post yet, please request this in the online portal once you have entered your customer number and an invoice or contract number. The code will be sent to the standard address by post.

From which point in time onwards can applications for corona reimbursements for the year 2021 be submitted? Any closing times relating to the year 2021 i.e. from 1 January 2021 onwards, customers of GEMA whose businesses had to close due to official administrative orders can submit an application for the respective credit notes.

Here you can enter the closure period for each business individually under “My corona closing times”. As soon as these details are available to us, you will get the respective credit note. You can also register in a few steps should you not have used the online portal until now.
My business has been closed since November 2020. Can I also apply for corona reimbursements (credit notes) retroactively? The voluntary support by GEMA has already been initiated in March 2020. As such, GEMA wishes to draw the attention of its customers to the fact that applications for credit notes relating to the 2020 financial year must be submitted by 14 April 2021 online via gema.de. After that, the option to receive credit notes for the previous year will end.

The plan resolved by the federal government and the Länder on 23 March extends the lockdown until 18 April 2021. How does GEMA deal with that? According to the decision of the federal government and the Länder, businesses, cultural and leisure institutions also won’t have any specific planning perspectives in the next few weeks.
GEMA thus continues to support its customers with the biggest goodwill and fairness in trade possible. For the period of business closures ordered by the authorities, GEMA continues to grant credit notes regarding continuous uses of music in the form of ongoing annual, quarterly and monthly agreements.
