Indeed, we also chose c) as our answer: As safe as possible! That is why we are going to introduce the 2FA (two-factor authentication) for the GEMA Online Portal at the end of August 2022.

As already reported in our member magazine virtuos, this type of login has long been common practice for any protected online areas. For online banking applications, it is even mandatory. And since our Online Portal provides access to your royalties, we would like to protect them with two layers. Just like any other sensitive data.

At a glance: What stays and what changes

These steps remain the same:

You log in with your e-mail address and your password in the GEMA Online Portal. This will work until expected by the end of the year. After that your old password will be deactivated, you may, however, ask for a new one by clicking on “reset password” at any time.

This is new:

A second factor is added. This factor is generated each time you log in and thus increases security significantly. What this means: Even if someone found out about your password, they cannot access the Online Portal.

This is how the new login works

Creators can choose from a variety of user-friendly and intuitive processes:

E-mail code

The code is sent to you by e-mail.

Desktop app

The desktop app on your PC generates a token which checks the login page automatically.

Smartphone app

You generate the code by using an app on your smartphone.

Push notification

You receive a push notification on your mobile.

Important note: The processes for publishers and sister organisations slightly deviate from the above. We will let you know how they work shortly.

Your messages in your Online Portal inbox
