GEMA at MIDEM 2014

MIDEM (Marché international de l’édition musicale), the world’s largest music industry trade show, will kick off for the 48th time this coming Saturday, February 1, in the French city Cannes. GEMA will be there, presenting an interesting program to the international guests involving well-known politicians and industry representatives.
In association with the German Music Publishers' Association (DMV), GEMA will invite visitors to a reception in the German pavilion on Sunday, February 2. German Culture Minister Prof. Monika Grütters will open the event with a speech welcoming the German and international music sector representatives. On Monday, February 3, GEMA and its French counterpart SACEM will organize a panel discussion entitled “Authors’ Rights: What’s next on the European Agenda?” where major players in the international music industry and political representatives from the European Commission will come together to talk about the future of copyright law in Europe. Jean Michel Jarre, President of CISAC, the International Confederation of Authors and Composers Societies, will take part in the debate as a representative of music authors. The panel discussion will focus on the issue of fair remuneration for authors in the digital age. As in previous years, after the panel discussion GEMA and the DMV will invite selected guests to attend its traditional MIDEM lunch (by personal invitation only).
