To ensure fair distribution, GEMA has access to various sources of information. For live events, for example, we receive set lists detailing the tracks performed. Online platforms send us usage reports, broadcasters provide us with details of their broadcasts, and producers of sound recordings report the copies made to us. Through nightclub monitoring, we can also determine which tracks are played in German clubs and how often.

We distribute our revenue on fixed dates spread throughout the year. These dates vary depending on the sector. Spreading the payments over the whole year ensures that beneficiaries receive their royalties not just once, but several times a year.
