total income: 1,149 billion euros
Another excellent result: GEMA generated revenue of around €1.34 billion in 2025 (2024: €1.33 billion). The chart shows how the revenue is distributed across the individual income streams.
The most profitable sectors
live performance: 530 Mio. €
Thanks to further optimisations – in particular the timely registration of events and faster processing times – revenue in the live sector continued to grow in 2025 compared with the previous year. In total, around 870,000 events took place and were licensed, a figure similar to that of the previous year. Whilst 2024 benefited from the one-off effect of the European Football Championship, the number of stadium and large-scale concerts was lower in 2025. Smaller and medium-sized events, such as club concerts and music festivals, contributed to this growth.
GEMA continued to grow its digital business in 2025, particularly in the music-on-demand sector. Agreements with major digital service providers such as Spotify and Amazon Music are ensuring rising revenues. Revenues in the video-on-demand sector also recorded encouraging growth last year, with an increase of 4.1 million euros.
Online: 328 Mio. €
broadcasting: 293 Mio. €
The advertising market saw a decline in 2025, particularly in the television sector. This trend is also affecting overall revenue, but is largely offset by stable performance in other areas – notably online, live and international.
GEMA is continuously expanding its international presence and represents the rights of numerous authors and composers abroad as well. We see further growth potential in this area, as we intend to examine this market more closely in order to record performances of works abroad in even greater detail and to strengthen our ties with music creators working internationally.
