What is the so-called GEMA Foundation?

The GEMA Foundation is a public foundation under civil law recognised as a charitable and non-profit organisation. It fulfils the cultural and social mandate enshrined in GEMA’s Articles of Association and Distribution Plan. Its aim is to support and promote contemporary composers, lyricists and music publishers, as well as their families, primarily through:   

• charitable support for music creators in need and their dependants  
• project funding for initiatives in the fields of composition and lyrics  
• the awarding of musical prizes  
• research projects with a particular focus on contemporary music 

The Foundation’s funds derive from its endowment (donations to the Foundation) and voluntary contributions. There is no legal entitlement to funding. Further information can be found on our page about the GEMA Foundation.
