What are the minimum details for the notification of a film or a series?

The following minimum details are required when registering a film or series with GEMA:

1. Original title of the film/series
   This enables the production to be uniquely identified and assigned to the AV repertoire.

2. Country of production
   Important for the allocation of international rights and billing (e.g. for cooperation with foreign collecting societies).

3. Year of production
   Used for chronological classification and to ensure correct processing of distributions.

4. Producer, including contact details
   So that we have a direct point of contact in the event of enquiries regarding the use of music or rights.

5. Initial exploitation (e.g. TV, cinema, VoD, internet)
   Relevant for the correct licensing and distribution logic, as royalties vary depending on the type of exploitation.

6. Musical works used, including

   • Title of the musical work

   • Duration of the music in the film/series (cue length)

   • Rights holders (authors, publisher where applicable)

This information is required so that we can identify which music was used, for how long, and who is entitled to the royalties.

7. Informationen zum Filmherstellungsrecht (Sync Right)
   This concerns whether and how the film production right has been granted or, where applicable, revoked, to ensure that the use of the music in the film is legally compliant.
