New Year’s Eve events must, as a general rule, be registered with GEMA online via the GEMA online portal before the event begins. The registration must include details of the venue, date, expected number of visitors and type of music use (live music, DJ, recorded music). For events on 31 December, the standard rates for the relevant event category apply (e.g. Rate U-V for live music, Rate M-V for music from recorded media). The royalty payment is based on the admission price and number of visitors, or on flat-rate provisions under the applicable tariff. Retrospective registration is possible, but may result in late payment surcharges.
