General Assembly 2024: Register now

Membership party 2023

What a night!

600 guests were counted by the event organisers of GEMA on Tuesday evening at the Löwenbräukeller. The hunger for a personal reunion and live music is still palpable in the second year after the pandemic-induced standstill.
At the outset of the three-day General Assembly, GEMA extended an invitation to its traditional membership party at the Löwenbräukeller in Munich. The highlight of the evening was the award ceremony for the Fred Jay Award presented to Judith Holofernes who was surprised with a musical interlude by Francesco Wilking, who held the laudatory speech and the female artist Karl die Große. At the end of the performance, the entire audience sang loudly: “Dammi solo una parola”, the Italian version of the Wir sind Helden song “Nur ein Wort” [only one word].
Composers, lyricists and publishers were celebrating until late and well beyond midnight. Just like at something otherwise experienced at “class reunions”, they were talking about past times, such as concerts and tours they did together, they were planning new collaborations or made new connections. The party was a huge success for all present and a great first day in terms of launching the 2023 General Assembly.
