Review: General Assembly 2016 in Berlin

During the last GEMA General Assembly,  which took place between 25 and 27 April 2016 in Berlin, composers, lyricists and music publishers discussed and resolved key issues and goals of the collective management organisation. One central issue was the editorial review of the GEMA distribution plan. Supervisory Board and Managing Committee picked up on the instruction issued by the General Assembly 2015, to subject the distribution plan to a major review from a linguistic and structural perspective, for the first time in 1950.

Press release on the General Assembly 2016

During GEMA’s membership party, the FRED JAY PREIS was awarded on 25 April in Berlin. One of the most important German lyricist awards was given to Die Fantastischen Vier. The award recognises the works of the four music authors who make an extraordinary contribution to rooting the German language into public awareness with their German lyrics.

Radiokulturpreis 2016

For the second time, GEMA has awarded the Radiokulturpreis to two radio channels which have dedicated themselves to the promotion of music culture and constitute a significant keystone of the vibrant music culture in Germany. On 25 April, during the GEMA membership party in Berlin, the prize was awarded to WDR 3 (serious music) and radioeins (rock and pop music).
