NEW: Summary of usage data

As of the 1 October 2024 distribution date, the usage data relating to individual streaming models will be summarised more effectively in the detailed statements for the music streaming and social media categories (MOD S, MOD S VR and GOP, GOP VR). From then on, these will differentiate only between subscription streaming and (if applicable) ad-supported streaming in respect of each digital service provider (DSP), for example Spotify and Meta. Information about which DSP streaming model is used can still be found in the Service Type field.

There are clear benefits for our members:

Thanks to this data consolidation, the number of streams necessary for any given work for there to be a distribution can be accumulated more easily. In addition, the detailed statements are becoming significantly clearer here.

This change will not affect the streaming values for the individual subscription or ad-supported models.

Cultural Subsidy for the Online Sector

As part of the new funding programme ‘Cultural Subsidy for the Online Sector’, the ‘Online Cultural Supplement’ will be paid out for the second time on 1 October 2025 – in total more than €3 million. The bonus is awarded once a year and is available to all members who generated revenue in the Music on Demand and Social Media categories during the 2024 financial year.

For the first time, individual work funding (basic funding) is also being awarded as part of the Cultural Fund – with a funding volume of around €1 million. Applications could be submitted in June 2025, and 400 works were selected for funding by an independent jury. Each work will receive €2,500 for the involved parties. The next application round will begin in November 2025.

The last regular distribution for the Phono VR category was carried out as part of the July payout on July 1, 2025. The next distribution will take place under the new category:

  • Music on Carriers – reproduction rights (MT VR)

This change results from the reorganization of the reproduction and distribution sector for physical media, which was adopted with Proposal 23 at the General Assembly 2024. We expect to announce the next distribution date for audio and audio-visual media in spring 2026.

Rating and pension plans

As of 1 October 2025, GEMA will distribute approximately €56 million to its members through the evaluation procedures, including the pension scheme for financial year 2024.

The financial resources for this distribution come predominantly from social and cultural funds. Compared to the previous year, the overall funding in this segment has declined. This is primarily due to a reduction in deductions for social and cultural purposes in the categories MOD/GOP. Additionally, allocations from interest income, admission fees, membership contributions, contractual penalties and other non-distributable funds in accordance with § 30 paragraphs 2 and 3 of the distribution plan were lower.

NEW: All information on the distribution in evaluation and pension scheme is now available in the GEMA Onlineportal. Further details can also be found on distribution information on rating and pension security
